RUMBON TROPICAL
FOLKLORE-POPULAR FUSION
MUSIC & DANCE

dvd description
video type: music and dance
18 minutes
filmed in Gaunabacoa, Cuba
This short video is a music and dance extravaganza of a Cuban fusion
group that blends various genres and instruments, all with astounding
affect. "Rumbon Tropical" is Luis Chacon's new experimental
group that combines folkloric and popular music as featured here with
batá drums, popular song, and brass instruments.
Performed at the "Los Orishas Club" in Guanabacoa, this
high energy performance event moves smoothly through five distinct
rhythm genres - espiritismo, sicamarie, orisha, rumba, and conga -
all featuring phenomenal dancing and the vitality of one of Cuba's
most dynamic cultural figures, Luis Chacon.
Luis Chacon Aspirina is remarkable in that he is one of the few figures
in Cuban culture today who is a master of song, dance, and drumming
and performs them all equally well. In his seventies now Chacon has
tremendous energy, and with this video is premiering his new 20 member
group "Rumbon Tropical" - a name inspired by the Rumbon
Tropical DVD Boogalu Productions produced with Chacon and the rumba
group "Rumberos de Cuba" in 2005.
With his new group, Chacon is reviving a fusion music style he created
in 1974 called "Ritmo Sicamarie" - one of the first Cuban
music styles that incorporated the folkloric batá drums into
Cuban popular music.
Luis Chacon Y Su Grupo Rumbon Tropical have plans to go on tour in
Europe, Canada, Australia, Japan, and other countries. If you want
more information about hosting this group in your country - contact
Boogalu Productions.
